azimute, das sind cesare marchese und der einigen techno-insidern nicht unbekannte schweizer philippe quenum. was die beiden zusammen fabrizieren lässt uns tatsächlich sprachlos zurück: obwohl sie gerade mal auf sieben releases zurückblicken, haben die zwei es doch tatsächlich geschafft in kürzester zeit auf labels wie crosstown rebels oder sogar transmat zu landen… und jetzt auch noch den weg auf cocoon recordings gefunden! ihr titel „the secret“ gibt ein wenig vor, was wir gerade beschrieben haben, denn momentan kann man azimute noch wirklich als geheimtipp bezeichnen. ihr cocoon release dürfte einer unserer releases mit dem höchsten soul-faktor sein. betörende vocals, klackernde percussion-sounds aus den untiefen des techno-klanguniversums und im zusätzlichen house-mix noch mal alles mit warmen und hypnotischen filter chords dekoriert servieren uns azimute eine produktion mit unglaublich viel tiefgang. azimute erwischt uns hier voll auf dem richtigen fuß, die beiden originalversionen werden uns noch lange über die kommenden wochen begleiten. als bonus gibt es noch einen cristi cons remix obendrauf. in bester villalobos oder cadenza spielart entfaltet dieser über sage und schreibe 11 minuten und 34 sekunden seinen minimalvibe und öffnet damit noch mal eine weitere faszinierende musikalische tür. drei versionen, die alles aber nicht gewöhnlich sind und die hier seit tagen in heavy rotation laufen! mile grazie azimute!

amsterdam label taped artifact has lined up an ep from merv aka brian oldenborg and jan christiansen. after the re-melted reissue on styrax in 2015, this is the pairs third new ep in three years since coming back after first making music back in the mid nineties. their warm dub and techno style is still very much fresh and arresting. blueprint opens the ep with eight enthralling minutes of percolating drums and shuffling hi hats. frosty yet warm, it’s a cavernous affair with a hypnotic riffs sucking you in over and over. shine is more upright techno, but the rock solid kicks are still draped with rippling, static coated chords that ripple out in all directions. rotundum closes things out with synth waves gently breaking over hunched drums that build the pressure. it’s tense and engaging while remaining thoroughly atmospheric.

with every album project comes a proper remix pack. marco bailey has invited some of his most respected colleagues in modern day techno to come up with an interpretation of two of temper’s toughest cuts.
“planet mad” is being reworked by marcel fengler and andre kronert. fengler’s rework is an adventurous take on the original and has a strong emphasis on rhythm. without loosing with the original idea, fengler builds the rhythm section into a wash of bold drums and rich percussion. andre kronert’s take on “planet mad” pushes the track s idea into a different direction. kronert yet again proves to be a craftsman when it comes to textures and builds. while the recognizable bass sound of the original keeps thumping, atypical bits of fx are added to build on an unusual but very soothing atmosphere.
for the b side, “naga” is being reshaped by croatian master of electronics petar dundov and rotterdam based fast riser, koen hoets. petar dundov comes up with an esoteric take on “naga”. whilst respecting the form of the original, dundov goes one notch deeper with his wide array dub elements and feral hat sounds. koen hoets delivers a more demure take on “naga”. whilst the rhythm section might not be suitable for all club situations, this is adventurous techno at its best. noteworthy fx and soul touching strings that float throughout.

months after their debut release, bosconi soundsystem is back with another killer package. the italian production trio, consisting of rufus, mass prod and bosconi boss fabio della torre, perk up here with unrequested states of bliss, a 2 x 12- offering that s packed from start to finish with spectacular dancefloor-ready cuts. the title reflects the contents of the album: psychedelic and minimal techno and electro music on a deep and dark tip that speaks to both the mind and the soul. the action kicks off with -serotonin-, a driving tech house jam that s full of driving, spacey atmospheric overtones. -eclipsed- is a more introspective cut, while on the flip you ll find the anthemic swing of the utterly outrageous -scaccomatto- and the psychotic electro of -minor thinking-. the c side opens with the cavernous bass riffs and the ghostly voices of -gravel fire-, followed by the funky grooves and twisted synth lines of -no flowers-. an unusual breakbeat track, it marks an interesting turn of direction of a release filled with intriguing motifs from the off. -blackout- opens amongst a claustrophionic vibe, before things come down a peg or two on the dreamy, celestial strands of -mandibola-
